Rates appeal

  • FREE appraisal of your rates
  • No savings, no fee
  • Appeals for material change of circumstance

Are your business rates correct?

The FPB has arranged for members to obtain a FREE* appraisal of their business rates from rating specialists, Montagu Evans.

Summary of benefits

  • No saving, no fee
  • Performance-related fee set at 50% of the first year's savings in rates, plus VAT
  • Nothing to pay until you have received your rebate from your local authority

If you claim your free appraisal and decide to appeal the valuation, you can:

  1. Take advantage of the FPB's specially-negotiated rates with Montagu Evans.
  2. Appeal yourself, which involves filling in your own appeal form and conducting your own negotiations with the Valuation Officer.
  3. Instruct a local surveyor to appeal on your behalf, for which you will need to agree a fee. Be wary of paying any money up front.

Note: businesses must pay their rates in the usual way during the appeal process. Following a successful appeal, the business will be reimbursed for overpaid rates, plus interest.

It is also important to note that the Valuation Officer can increase as well as reduce Rateable Values (RVs).
